Abstract

The Canadian Obesity Clinical Practice Guidelines, published in 2020, have significantly shifted the dialogue around obesity management. These guidelines place substantial emphasis on patient-centered care, reducing stigma and bias, and recognizing obesity as a chronic disease, and have set a new global standard for obesity management. Most recently, Ireland and Chile have adapted these guidelines in their own countries

Megha Poddar, MD, McMaster University, Hamilton, ON Medical Weight Management Centre of Canada

Dr. Megha Poddar is an Endocrinologist and Obesity Medicine Specialist in Toronto, Ontario. She holds a diplomate from the American Board of Obesity Medicine and serves as an Assistant Professor at McMaster University. Dr. Poddar is the Medical Director at the Medical Weight Management Centre of Canada (www.mwmcc.ca), a national, medical, and behavioural therapy program for obesity. She's published extensively on obesity and is an author on the Canadian Obesity Clinical Practice Guidelines. Beyond her professional achievements, Dr. Poddar is deeply committed to personalized patient care, emphasizing empathy and individualized treatment in her approach.

Anil Maheshwari, MD, McMaster University, Hamilton, ON Weight and Lifestyle Program, Cleveland Clinic Canada

Dr. Maheshwari is Board Certified in Family Medicine in Canada and the US and Board Certified in Obesity Medicine. He is an Assistant Clinical Professor (Adjunct) at McMaster University and the Medical Director of the Weight and Lifestyle Program at Cleveland Clinic Canada.
